United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (which is usually shortened to just the UK or United Kingdom) is a political union made of up of four countries, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. England, Scotland and Wales share the island of Great Britain, which lies just off the northwest coast of continental Europe. The fourth country, Northern Ireland, is a portion of another island, which is split between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, an independent country, in the south. The UK also has overseas territories such as Bermuda and Gibraltar.
The tuition fee varies according to different universities, courses and the city. For international students, undergraduate fees would range anywhere between £9000 to £15000 for a year depending on the program, university, location etc. But the fee for a lot of international undergraduate programs is around £10,000 on an average. And for a post-graduate course, majority of international fees are between £11,000 and £16,000.

Cost of Living

The monthly living costs that you will need to show will depend on where you will be studying in the UK.

You must show that you have: £1,265 per month for living costs if you are studying in London for the majority of your study (more than 50% of your study time) £1,015 per month for living costs if you are studying outside London or anywhere else in the UK for the majority of your study (more than 50% of your study time).

If you are following a course at NQF 6 or QCF 6 or SCQF 9 or above with a sponsor which is a UK recognised body or a UK HEI, or you are undertaking a short-term study abroad degree programme at an overseas recognised body or HEI the following work is allowed: • no more than 20 hours a week during term time; • full-time during vacations; • on a work placement as part of the course, providing the work placement does not amount to more than 50% of the course;

If you are following a course at NQF 3/4/5 or QCF 3/4/5 or SCQF 6/7/8, with a sponsor which is a UK HEI, the following work is allowed: • no more than 10 hours a week during term time; • full-time during vacations; • on a work placement as part of the course, providing the work placement does not amount to more than 33% of the course;

If you are following a course at any level with a sponsor which is a publicly funded further education college, the following work is allowed: • on a work placement as part of a course, providing the work placement does not amount to more than 33% of the course;

If you are following a course at any level with a Tier 4 sponsor which is a private provider, you are not allowed to work whilst in the UK.

Your Tier 4 Sponsor will assess your level of English language competence as part of their academic assessment of your ability to follow a particular course. The level of English language ability that you must have and how your Tier 4 sponsor is allowed to assess that you are competent in English will depend on: when your CAS was assigned; the type of course you are following; and the type of institution at which you will be studying.

The normal requirement is an overall 6 band in IELTS for UG programs and an overall 6.5 band for PG programs with the exception of 7 overall for some university programs.
